Maybelline Dream Satin Skin Two Way Cake:

  • Provides a non cakey and oil free finish.
  • Protects skin from sun with SPF 30+.
  • Provides an extremely fit to skin finish that lasts upto 12 hours.
  • Is 5X thinner than other powders, thus giving a finish like second skin.

I get really annoyed when drugstore brands don’t launch darker shades. Even their sales executives are trained for selling lightest shades to all of their customers and asking for darker shade can annoy them. I had faced the same struggle while picking foundations from Maybelline’s latest launch – Dream Satin Skin Range.

Packaging of Maybelline Dream Satin Skin Two Way Cake is simple. It comes in a pearly beige colored container with a full sized mirror and foundation applicator.

Shade – As always I got the darkest one 03, but when I am trying to see it online, its confusing. The guy at the counter told me that there are pink toned and yellow toned shades (3 -3 each). Maybelline Dream Satin Skin Two Way Cake 03 has no name on the packaging, I am guessing it should be Sandy Beige. 03 is one shade lighter than my skintone, however I generally prefer one shade lighter powders (not foundations), as they brighten up the complexions and since the formula is generally sheer, they don’t look ashy. 03 looks good on me when worn dry, like a finishing powder however It makes me look like a ghost if I use it wet. I find the shade pretty similar to Za Two Way Cake Foundation No 32., though this one has more yellow tones than Za. This shade wouldn’t work for NC 44 and above.

Texture & Formula– This is where this product has won me over. Despite of it being a two way cake, Maybelline Dream Satin foundation doesn’t feel chalky or thick. It has such a dreamy, soft , finely milled formula which blends into the skin like a magic. Believe me or not this has been my favorite setting powder ever since I have purchased it. I make sure to apply a sheer light layer otherwise it starts looking ashy on pigmented areas of my face. Formula isn’t drying and mattifies skin without looking flat. Another thing which impressed me the most is that this foundation comes with SPF 32 PA+++, which makes it perfect for summers!

Pigmentation & Staying Power – I have worn it as a powder foundation only and it stays on for good 5+ hours. Formula is quite sheer so it brightens &  evens out the complexion but doesn’t cover blemishes or marks. Also if your complexion is similar to mine than avoid being heavy handed on pigmented areas, It will look ashy and unflattering.

Also presence of SPF makes it not-so-flash-photo-friendly and hence below pictures have a white cast, which is not visible in person (when applied dry).

Overall Thoughts

As much as I like the sheer and smooth formula and blend-ability , the Shade range turns me off. The darkest shade is still light for me and I can’t wear it wet. If you are looking for an everyday silky smooth finishing powder than surely grab Maybelline Dream Satin Skin Two Way Cake Foundation.

I saw this powder at the maybelline counter and I wanted to buy it. But the darkest shade in this range is like 3 shades lighter than my skin tone. I wish they came up with more shades for Indian skin tones. Loved this review 🙂

I wanted this, but looking at the shades I skipped it. Even the darkest isn’t going to work for me. I am waiting to see the shades in other foundation now. Thanks for the review 🙂

This does seem too pale but as a sheer powder, it’s fine. Shiseido has really good yellow toned shades in the 2way foundation. Try it some time.

I completely agree with you about the shade selection thing…I mean its really annoying how companies don’t even address the fact that the average Indian complexion is like NC 40+ and not NC 35….
I just bought this powder and as you mentioned finding the right shade was a struggle so using it wet is definitely out if question for me as well 🙁
