MAC Goldmine Eyeshadow Review Swatches Photos

I personally do not invest in single eyeshadows, at least not in the high end brands. I prefer eyeshadow palettes over singles, for economical purposes and also for the fact that it gives me a variety of choices. But that is now. Back then when I was just getting into makeup, this was one of the first eyeshadows ever I got from MAC. I still remember going with my friend and getting it to help my friend do her makeup on her wedding day. We were so clueless about MAC stuff and the eyeshadow types and shades. The SA suggested us MAC Goldmine one along with a few others. We felt this suited our needs best when it comes to dressing up the bride. And we all know Indian wedding and gold shades go hand in hand.

  • Can be used wet or dry

How to Use:

Shade: MAC Goldmine is described as “Intense gold with shimmer” on the MAC website. It is exactly that. It is definitely an intense yellowish gold. The shade is quite neutral and I feel it should work with all skin tones. I have personally used it one different skin tones and it works beautifully.

It gives a beautiful bejewelled feel to the eyes; hence it works beautifully for bridal and festival makeup. It is definitely not an everyday shade. But lighter skin toned people can get away with using it on an everyday if used with a light hand.

Texture & Finish: The texture of the eyeshadow is extremely smooth and buttery. Though it has shimmers in it, it’s not chunky. It’s quite finely milled and blends beautifully and effortlessly into the skin. It is from the Frost Finish range of MAC Eyeshadows and gives a frost finish. But despite that it doesn’t look chunky or patchy on the lids. It has more of a pearly sheen and looks beautiful once applied.

Pigmentation : The colour payoff of this shade is amazing. It gives a very opaque finish. You can build up the colour if you need more intensity as per the occasion. It doesn’t crease with build-up and gives a very even and opaque finish.

Staying Power: The staying power is also excellent. Though if you have very oily eyelids, do use an eye primer underneath. It stays on easily for 8-9 hours, which is a great thing for brides. But the pearliness/shimmer does fade off gradually post 6 hours. But even then the colour stays and doesn’t fade off with the shimmer. It stays all day without creasing which is definitely another plus.

Overall Thoughts

If you are looking for an intense neutral classic gold eyeshadow, you should definitely go for MAC Goldmine Eyeshadow. It will work great for brides, ethnic Indian wares and festivities. The texture & finish is beautiful and the colour payoff is amazing too. It is a shade that will work for all skin tones. Having said that, I would also like to add that it is definitely an easy to dupe shade. You can find the exact dupe or something similar at a lesser cost, but I cannot say if the rest of the features such as texture, pigmentation and staying power will live up to this one. It is definitely worth the investment if you have the occasion.
