The word jewellery has been taken from the word ‘Jewel’ which itself is an anglicized version of the Old French word “jouel” and even more to the Latin word known as ”jocale” which means plaything.

Jewellery can be crafted from various thing but few things like gemstones and semi precious gemstones like amber, ruby, emerald with precious metals, shells, beads, enamel have been widely used and thus are very popular. Almost world over jewellery has been seen as the sign of material wealth hence denoting status symbol. Its patters and its meaning (which part it adorns) might differ from culture to culture. Jewellery is a thing which is used as an embellishment for almost every part of the body from the hairclip, to rings, to necklace, to bracelets, anklets and toe rings. Though adult women are a constant in all cultures who adorn jewellery but it has been seen that in many cultures men and children adorn it too, the styles of adorning them may vary for instance today in western culture the quantity of jewellery worn by men is far lesser than it was worn in earlier periods in western culture.

Jewellery has been in all these years adorn for lots of motives:
