Lakme India Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014 – Day 1

Lakme India Fashion Week opened today and I was there to witness Day 1. This years show is associated with Jabong. In keeping with the online trend, the entire show is completed connected via all media. There were large screens all over the waiting areas, giving you a peek into the days collections along with people tagging their favorites. There are hangouts being hosted on Google + and a number of these are shoppable – you can buy / book a piece that you liked as it is being showcased on the runway! The amount of connectivity boggles my mind!

Yesterday evening Manish Malhotra opened the Show with a fashionable romantic collection called “A Summer Affair”. Today, I will be sharing with you some of the highlights as well as my favourites.

My personal favourite was the accessories collection by Nitya Arora of Valliyan.

This collection is an ode to her friends in the LGBT community called “Juliet loves Juliette” an unconventional take on Romeo and Juliet. The designs were luxurious and sometimes over the top but fascinatingly whimsical.

Nikhil Thampi started with a monochrome white collection, slowly adding soft colours which then became completely bold including mango, yellow, purple and teal.

There were structured jackets that then gave way to flowing fabrics. The outfits were accessorized and embellished with rose gold rossettes.

Finally, SOUP by Sougat Paul caught my attention with the bright bold colours and shapes that flatter the Indian silhouette.

Overall Thoughts

This is a truly a sensational experience watching new designs as they walk down the runway. The entire event was buzzing with adrenaline and I was really happy to be a part of it. Look forward to attending some of the other events planned over the next few days.
