Catrice Ginger & Fred Ultimate Color Lipstick Review

Catrice Ginger & Fred Ultimate Color Lipstick (Rs 610 for 3.8gms)

Catrice is a European brand that has become available in India some time back.  I normally like to try out a lip product from a new brand first as lip colours are pretty indicative of the overall quality the brand will offer.  A dud lipstick and the rest of the products are likely to be a hit or miss. Today I will be reviewing Catrice Ginger & Fred Ultimate Color Lipstick.

Packaging – The black tube is heavy and feels really high end and classy.

Shade – Ginger & Fred (030) is an Ultimate Color Lipstick that is supposed to make your lips shine with highly pigmented rich color.  Ginger and Fred is a deep mauveish brown in the tube.  It has visible shimmers that show in the tube more than on your lips.

On the lips this shows as a high shine berry toned lip colour.  There is shimmer visible but not really unless you are looking up close.  The shimmer translates into a high shine finish from a distance.

Texture & Formula – The lip colour is buttery smooth and goes on really easily, it almost feels like a lip balm once you wear it. I love the way it sits on the lips without going into the thin lines or spreading.  The quality is really good – I love that it has no perceptible fragrance. Being a cream formula, this transfers very easily – it will get onto your coffee mug when you wear it.

The lipstick does tend to get soft very easily if you carry it in your bag.  Mine has gotten a little off centre at the base right now and I’m hoping it doesn’t break off completely.

Pigmentation – The colour is a little on the sheer side if you compare to a matte lipstick.  I have to do at least 3 swipes to get the colour density that I desire.  The description does mention highly pigmented, and I was expecting a more deeper shade.  This however, gives you the option of wearing it more sheer if you wish and layering it on if you prefer a stronger colour.

Staying Power – It stays on for upto 4 hours if you don’t eat or drink anything in that time. I think that’s ok for a cream formula.  If you eat something in that time then be ready to refresh your lipstick.

Overall Thoughts

I am ready to explore more shades from this range.  Catrice Ginger & Fred (love the name) is a very basic mauve colour but I find that its done really well.  I searched my stash of over 50 lip colours but couldn’t come up with a single near dupe of this.  I’m glad I got this one.

I also find this range price more affordable than some of the other brands out there.
