Sugar Cosmetics products have quickly gained popularity. There are many customers who can’t stop raving the formula & texture of their lip products. I myself love It’s A Pout Time Lipstick range and have already reviewed Breaking Bare & Peachy Little Liars. I haven’t tried their Matte As Hell Crayons because I am not fond of crayons that need to be sharpened. But this time the new shade Rose Dawson caught my eyes. I couldn’t resist and bought it. Lets see how Sugar Cosmetics Rose Dawson Matte As Hell Crayon performed on me.
Packaging like I mentioned is in a crayon form, which is quite convenient except for the sharpening part. I would have preferred a retractable crayon so that there is no wastage and hassle each time. Well thats my preference and some don’t care much about the packaging as long as formula & shade suits them. Each crayon comes with sharpener so you don’t have to go and buy one.
Shade – While searching for the swatches online I was sceptical about this shade. Sugar Cosmetics Rose Dawson seemed too light for my complexion, still I bought it. I love pink lipsticks and thought of giving it a try. The shade thankfully is beautiful ! A rosy pink shade with warm tones. The shade brightens up the complexion and doesn’t wash me out. I love this shade and it would be a perfect summer color in my opinion.
Texture & Formula – Now this is where I have troubles with this product. The formula is matte, flat matte but the texture doesn’t cooperate. It is dry and crumbly. It moves around if you press your lips together. From a distance the shade looks gorgeous but up close the patchy finish disappoints you.
Formula isn’t drying like regular matte lipsticks. If you have lip lines then the lipstick enhances them. The product settles into fine lines and doesn’t look good. Also It doesn’t seem to set on me, keeps moving around. After a meal or so it sets as a stain.
Pigmentation – Sugar Cosmetics Rose Dawson is quite pigmented. I have dark upper lip but as you can see in the picture the shade completely conceals the darkness, evens out lips and looks pretty !
Staying Power – On me it stays for 4+ hours. After an hour or meals it sets as a stain. Since its a powder matte lipstick the formula doesn’t stick to your lips hence fades faster than regular matte lipsticks. Also check out Marry Poppins & Holly Golightly
Sugar Cosmetics Rose Dawson Matte As Hell Crayon is priced at Rs 799 available at Flipkart
Overall Thoughts
I am on fence about this product. As much as I love the shade, the formula & texture makes me irk. Crumbly uneven patchy finish isn’t something I prefer no matte how beautiful a color is. I would have preferred finish similar to their It’s pout time lipsticks but this one is powdery matte, neutral shades from that range are my all time favourites. If you love rosy pinks and don’t mind making the formula work then do pick Sugar Cosmetics Rose Dawson Matte As Hell Crayon.

I thought this color would be more warm toned than what it looks..I have their Holly Go Lightly and it is working pretty fine for me, the texture isn’t the best I have come across though.

The shade is indeed beautiful but a powdery finish is not something that looks attractive! I’d have preferred a satin-matte finish more.
This shade looks beautiful on your lips though. Thanks for the honest review Shalini. I’ve been thinking to pick a few from this range!
