Sugar Cosmetics Matte as Hell Lip Crayons (Rs 799)
Internet has gone Kaboom over a new brand called Sugar Cosmetics recently; and I don’t see why it shouldn’t! I myself couldn’t resist buying Sugar Cosmetics Matte As Hell Lip Crayons and thus I got two shades, 04 Holly Golightly and 02 Mary Poppins. The entire matte-as-hell range has 4 shades, and the other two are Scarlett-O-Hara (Red) and Poison Ivy (Wine).
The shades are quite unique and with just 4 shades, it did knock the market out! Interestingly the lipsticks are named after famous characters from books and movies, like Scarlett-O-Hara is one of the main characters of the novel and movie Gone With the Wind and Poison Ivy is the infamous adversary of Batman.
Shades: Marry Poppins is a bright purplish fuchsia which is a very unique colour in my opinion. I have explored and dug the market looking for a similar colour before it was delivered onto my laps by Sugar Cosmetics! It is my absolute favourite and every time I put it on, I feel like a diva! It is highly pigmented, super matte and will work across a variety of skin tones. Even though it is quite blue based, it is deep and thus there is no fear of looking odd.
Holly Golightly is a nude lipstick, and no matter how many nude lipsticks you own, you are bound to fall in love with this one. The most important thing about all the shades is they are universally flattering and so you can buy these without worrying about it looking good on you, because they will always look good on you, no matter your skin tone. This one is no exception. It is a brownish peachy nude which magically transforms into different colours on different person’s lips. On my face it looks fully nude, barely there. But I love how sophisticated it makes me look and it has been my best pal this winter. I am in love with this shade.
Packaging: Each lipstick costs 799INR and comes with a free sharpener. These are normal crayon pencils with no twist-up systems but have to be sharpened as we move along. The crayons are jet black in colour and the bottom part is colour coded for our convenience. The cap is secure and hence it can be travelled with, safely. The crayons contain 2.8 gms of product which is a bit less considering the price. The crayons are housed in a long paper cuboid which has a woman’s face printed in pixels and Aztecs which I think is pretty cool. The ingredient list and company info are present in this outer packaging. The lipstick has a shelf life of 3 years.
Texture & Formula: Sugar Cosmetics Matte As Hell Lip Crayons are matte as hell for sure! They apply really creamy and soft on the lips with no tugging or pulling. After few seconds they go completely matte, shine-free and powdery. But as you would expect totally matte lipsticks to dry out our lips, these would completely prove otherwise: these are very forgiving on the lips. However I would recommend exfoliated lips before putting this on, as the shade 04 being a very light colour tends to give away to dry chapped lips. These are transfer proof to a great extent and did survive a heavy meal on me. However, the lighter shade fades away faster than the darker ones.
Staying Power: Mary Poppins stayed for over 7 hours on me whereas Holly Golightly for about 4 hours, both after surviving a light meal. I require 2 coat of Mary Poppins and 4 coats of Holly Golightly for opaque coverage and desired staying time.
Overall Thoughts
You should at least buy one lipstick from Sugar Cosmetics Matte As Hell Lip Crayons, if you haven’t already. You will not be disappointed and you may as well finish it off before the summer is over, because it’s that good!
