Sally Hansen Lip Inflation Extreme Sheer Cherry (Rs 775) available at FlipkartI’ve always known Sally Hansen to make some really innovative nail products that have received rave reviews and I personally have two holy grail nail products.  (Will share a review of these soon).   I was pretty thrilled to receive this lip plumper in my August Vellvette Box.  To be very honest, I have never really understood the hype behind the “lip plumping” so all I was looking for was a great gloss.  Most of the times, these claims are more “gimmicky” and hard to measure anyway.

Packaging – The 6 ml gloss comes in a transparent clear plastic square shaped tube with a gold cap.  The packing looks classy and at the same time the metallic cap does not attract dust or finger prints.  The application is a small brush the does the job of coating the lips beautifully.

Shade and Fragrance – Sally Hansen Lip Inflation Extreme Sheer Cherry is a very flattering rose pink shade with micro gold shimmer.  The colour is very visible in the tube and so you know exactly what you are getting.  The micro gold shimmer is only visible up close and cannot be seen from a distance at all.

The gloss has a very soothing cinnamon fragrance that instantly transports me to a bakery filled with little Christmas delights.  The Sally Hansen website claims that the gloss contains Ginger and Cinnamon that helps with the plumping effect.  Good to know they are using natural ingredients.Pigmentation and Plumping effect – The gloss is pretty sheer as the name suggests.  The colour intensity can built up by layering more coats, however you cannot achieve full opacity and the natural colour of your lips will determine how this looks on you.  You can also layer this over another lip colour.

On the lips, this looks juicy and wet.  The shimmer is hardly visible but enhances the overall high gloss finish.

On application there is a moderate tingling effect on the lips which fades away in a few seconds.  I actually do not notice any plumping effect on my lips.   The funny thing is, the first time I apply this in the day there is a tingling effect immediately,but subsequent re – applications in the day do not cause any tingling at all.

Texture and formula – Sally Hansen Lip Inflation Extreme Sheer Cherry is a very moisturizing formula that lips your lips happy and pampered long after the colour has worn off.  The great bit is that it is not at all sticky.  I hate those sticky glosses that attract hair like magnets, thankfully this is not one of them.

Staying power – The colour stays on me for about 1 -2 hours only, but the high shine glossy impact stays longer and wears off only after 3 to 4 hours.

Overall Thoughts

Though this does not deliver on the promise of Lip Plumping, I still love the product.  The colour looks great on me, my lips feel well moisturised and who can resist the delightful cinnamon smell.  On the downside, do not apply this on chapped lips, they will burn.  The tingling, though subtle can hurt if your lips are not in good shape.

Would I repurchase this?  Absolutely!

Rating – 4.5/5 (I knocked off .5 only for not living up to its claim of lip plumping)
