It was my husband’s birthday and we decided to lunch at Neung Roi, Thai restaurant at Radisson Blu Plaza, New Delhi. I have been to many Pan Asian restaurants but one dedicated to Thai food and its culture was new to me. I enjoy thai food because of its fresh ingredients and flavours.
A bit more Neung Roi and what sets it apart from other Thai Restaurants –
With a menu inspired by cuisines from four distinct culinary traditions of Thailand, Neung Roi promises to offer an unprecedented and amazing dining experience that takes you on a unique voyage through Thailand’s rich gastronomic diversity.
First of all lets admire the interiors – peaceful, inspired by Thai culture and relaxing. Neung Roi is perfect for a date night, partying with friends or a fun family dinner/ lunch. The restaurant is quite spacious and well lit, mostly with yellow lights and golden accents.
Menu is on a touchpad, which surely comes handy for someone like me, who easily gets lost in the pages. Also I forgot to mention that the menu itself is very very extensive , divided into four categories/ regions of Thailand – North, West, South & Central, which further expands into four course menu under each category, offering culinary specialities of that particular region. Our server took us through the entire menu, explaining what sets each region apart from the other.
Tap on a particular dish and it will quickly open up a close up shot of the same, which I find really helpful since I forgot a dish I had earlier and picture was quite helpful in recalling the same.
We had mocktails, since it was lunch and he had plenty of opportunities to get drunk in the night since he was THE birthday boy 😀 I couldn’t decide which one to order but wanted to get a refreshing one either lemon or orange based, the server was super helpful and suggested drinks for both of us according to our preferences.
The amuse bouche kicked started the fun tasting session – Miang Kham. It was crunchy peanuts, onions and some other stuff placed on a betel leaf, it looked pretty and tasted refreshing, sweet & crunchy.
For starters We requested him to serve only small portions so that we could taste as many dishes as we could without get over stuffed. This is how the platter looked like, I LOVED everything that was there 😀
The platter had –
Phad Tuea Hrong – Neung Roi at Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi
Phad Tuea Hrong – Wok fried tofu, bean sprout & chives with soya sauce. Super fresh, crunchy & tasteful. One of my favorite starters from that lunch. Perfect if you are a vegetarian and feel left out while everyone else is devouring crispy grilled chicken:D
Yam Tuea Plu – Wing bean Salad with roasted coconut & tamarind dressing. It was a perfect mix of crunch, sweet & tangy notes ! Loved the crunch & sweetness from coconut.
Yam Gai Yang – Grilled chicken salad with tomato, celery, spring onion, white onion & sweet chilli dressing. Another favorite of mine, crispy grilled chicken was perfectly cooked and the crunch and freshness coming from the vegetables was lip smacking.
Gai Yang – Grilled chicken with coriander roots & roasted chilli sauce, as simple as it can get, as flavourful as you would expect. Simple, delicious , appetizing ! Chicken skin was crispy and the sauce complimented and bound the dish together perfectly.
For soups we tried one veg & one chicken soup. I was looking for something fresh, non-spicy and light soup, so we were served –
Gaeng Juet Tohu Oon Tuea Hrong – Soft tofu soup with bean sprouts & garlic oil. Super light, tasty & crunchy, loved every sip of it.
Ba Mee Nam Gai Sab – Chicken & egg noodle in aromatic Broth. My husband licked the bowl clean, not literally though 😀 . Soups were served in white ceramic bowls with lids.
In the main course we chose two dishes – One Chicken One Veg , served with Jasmine Rice.
Gaeng Kiew Wan Gai – Chicken green curry with eggplant, basil kaffir lime & coconut milk. For us it was customized into a red curry that tasted like authentic thai red curry with subtle flavour of coconut, moderately spiced with succulent chicken pieces.
Phad Pak Boong Fai Dang – Stir fried morning glory with soya bean paste. Honestly it was my least favorite dish !
In desserts I went for my favorite –
Tub Tim Krob – Water chestnut in coconut jasmine syrup. The presentation is beautiful and the simplicity of the dessert is what touches your soul, well soul of your tummy 😀 Super light, refreshing and crunchy, not overly sweet. Perfect balanced dessert after one heck of a meal.
He ordered –
Khao Niew Mamuang – Sticky rice with fresh mango & coconut cream. Freshness of fresh mangoes tuned finely with sticky rice and coconut cream !
Overall If you love Thai cuisine and want to taste authentic thai flavours than I doubt that any restaurant other than Neung Roi can offer you the experience.
*I was invited to Neung Roi for a complementary meal for review purposes
