I have been using the Real Techniques Expert face brush for a while and realize how wonderful the product is.  I think it’s great to get a good quality brush for a reasonable price as the high end one’s can cost a bundle.

Packaging: The box of six is nice large and holds all the brushes well in the cardboard set.  The back has a list of the brushes with their intended purpose, a real boon for those of us who are just beginning to use brushes instead of our fingertips.  The full box was bulky for me to hang on to, so I simply cut out the list of brushes and kept it on my dresser, for easy reference.

Sam’s Picks : This Makeup Brush Set has 6 brushes – Real Techniques color codes the brushes, pink for finishing, gold yellow for base and purple for eyes.  They also write the name of the brush on the handle, something that’s really cool.

Multi-task Brush – for effortless application of powder lush and bronzer.

This is a setting brush that I have used for both bronzer and blush.  The bristles are really soft and fluffy but have a bit of hold so that the brush does not bend completely during application.  The density of the bristles is high but not as high as the buffing or the expert brush.

Blush and bronzer go on beautifully as this picks up just enough product to create a subtle daily work wear look. Real Techniques Sam's Picks Makeup Brush Set Review Price Photos (6)

Buffing Brush – ideal for full coverage application of powder and mineral foundation.

This brush has pretty much changed my life!  No, I’m no exaggerating here. I had a ton of powder foundations, such as MAC Studiofix which were languishing in my dresser since I was just not able to get a nice enough look with the sponge.  Enter, Real Techniques buffing brush.  I now use this almost daily for the application of powder foundation.  This is high in density and picks up more powder than the earlier one.  Buffing is very easy and the foundation seems to work best with this brush.

Essential Crease Brush – soft tapered design for effortless contouring.

Super soft crease brush that works well for shadow application.  I don’t really spend much time contouring, so I’m not going to get too much use out of this one.  For those of you who are interested, it works quite well, soft silky bristles that bend just enough for correct application.  This one is a set exclusive and won’t be available stand alone.Real Techniques Sam's Picks Makeup Brush Set Review Price Photos (3)

Fine Liner Brush – ultimate tool for precision application of liquid or cream eyeliner.

The description on this is absolutely perfect – the brush works perfectly for gel eyeliner.  I have realized how much of a difference it makes to use this instead of the brush that comes in the kit with the gel eyeliner.  I have actually started using my gel liners much more due to this.Real Techniques Sam's Picks Makeup Brush Set Review Price Photos (5)

Setting Brush – complete any look with a controlled dusting of powder or highlighter.

This is again very soft and small enough to give you a very controlled application of powder for finishing.  I am very partial to my Laura Mercier Fan brush for applying highlighter so I haven’t tried this yet for highlighter.  It works very well for dusting of powder though.  I don’t really need so much control for a basic day look, so the larger finishing brushes work fine for me however.

This is great for someone who wants to create a very precise look.Real Techniques Sam's Picks Makeup Brush Set Review Price Photos (7)

Pointed foundation brush – use with liquid foundation to build custom coverage.

Another great brush for applying precise liquid foundation.  I use this to pat foundation in my eye area.  It is flat and stiff and allows you to reach into the corners very well.  In fact I tried this with my concealer as well and it worked beautifully.

Overall Thoughts

Real Techniques Sam’s Picks Makeup Brush Set is really Value for Money with each brush costing less than Rs 400.  I absolutely adore four out of the six in this set, which makes it perfect for me.  All the brushes are soft to touch and feel really like the other high end MAC or Laura Mercier brushes that I have.  In my opinion, Real Techniques is a great brand and one that should not be ignored even if you have a higher budget.

I have washed all these a few times and none of the brushes have shed at all – colour and shape is fully retained.  I’m sure these are going to serve me well.
