The Oudh Restaurant – The Ashok New Delhi Review

Being a die-heart foodie, I have a habit of not visiting a food joint again, unless the food is out of the world. During one of such quests me & my partner in crime “Husband” landed at The Oudh, an in house Restaurant of The Ashok Hotel, New Delhi. No matter how many cuisines we might have tried, indian cuisine stays close to our hearts. The Oudh serves Awadhi cuisine and hence we had to be there. The Oudh Restaurant - The Ashok New Delhi Review

Place is true reflection of royalty. Right from the entrance to the interiors of the restaurant. Red and white theme accompanied by silver urns. I liked the paintings of Mughal Kings & queens on the walls, and whole place looked vintage and elegant. The Oudh Restaurant - The Ashok New Delhi ReviewThe Oudh Restaurant - The Ashok New Delhi Review

We decided to start the dinner with soups (shorbas) , I ordered Lucknowi Yakhni Shorba (Mutton Soup) and my husband went for Surkh Shorba (Tomato Soup). How I love such names. Both were served piping hot and tasted fine. I had to add some pepper salt to intensify the taste though. The Oudh Restaurant - The Ashok New Delhi Review

In starters we ordered Lehsooni Malai Tikka, Murgh Lazeez Seekh & a Vegetable Platter that had Tohfa-e-noor (Paneer Rolls), Haryali Kabab & mushroom Tikka. My heart broke the moment I dug my fork in Malai Tikka, chicken was hard as rubber. I picked another piece and that was a bit better Same was with Lazeez Seekh, It was quite dry. Vegetable platter had one fail dish – Haryali kabab . it was doughy and tasteless. Paneer Rolls and Mashroom Tikkas were flavourful & succulent. The Oudh Restaurant - The Ashok New Delhi Review

In main course we ordered Murgh Rihana, Dal Oudhi, Naan & Murgh Biryani. The Oudh Restaurant - The Ashok New Delhi ReviewThe Oudh Restaurant - The Ashok New Delhi ReviewThe Oudh Restaurant - The Ashok New Delhi ReviewThe Oudh Restaurant - The Ashok New Delhi ReviewThank Fully everything in the main course tasted amazing. Murgh Rihana had succulent juicy chicken pieces and the gravy itself was beautiful. Dal Oudhi was on the lines on Dal makhani, and we liked it too. Murgh Biryani was presented in clay pots covered with pastry accompanied by Raita. It was aromatic, flavorful and very adequately spicy.

In desserts I decided to taste Maal-Pua & Rabri, one of my all time favorite desserts. It was the star of the night, amazing taste and that rabri had the perfect sweetness to it.The Oudh Restaurant - The Ashok New Delhi Review

I found food decently priced and didn’t find any dish costly, by the standards of an in house restaurant of a 5 Star Hotel. Food tasted good except for some dry chicken starters. We raised the issue and it was immediately attended by the staff, they quickly replaced them with new dishes. This is something I always admire and that’s why The Oudh managed to get some brownie points from me 🙂

If you love Awadhi Cuisine, The Oudh can be a good choice. The food is decent, with some misses. I was impressed with the humility of the staff , and how quickly they addressed the issues and took immediate steps to rectify them. However I would love to see some better quality food, at least that justifies the amount of money one pays.

This is a wonderful post Shalini… Living in Lucknow, I often get a taste of the royal awadhi cuisine… but in delhi, this seems a decent choice…
