NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Antwerp, San Paulo Review Swatches

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (US $ 6) available from Cherryculture.com Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream Antwerp and San Paulo (2)Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream Antwerp and San Paulo (1)I have been on quite a Nyx fix recently, having loved their butter glosses.  I have always been intrigued by the concept of a matte gloss and so I bought these two.

Packaging – Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream comes in a normal tube with a black matte cap – the colour of the tube is the same as the colour of the gloss. I love this about Nyx, it makes it so easy to find the colour you want without having to check the lid for the name.  I also love that these are named after cities.

Shade – Fortunately I love both the shades that I ordered.  They looked very similar in the online swatches but fortunately I can justify having both.

Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream Antwerp looks like a light rose in the swatch but applies almost like a nude colour on me.  I like the overall effect of the matte nude lip, perfect for day wear.

Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream  San Paulo is my favorite – it is a rose / berry kind of deep pink.  The colour looks bold when worn and it perfectly complements my skin tone.

Pigmentation – Antwerp is less pigmented than the darker San Paulo.  I need to do a couple of extra swipes on my lips to get complete coverage.  San Paulo needs only one or two.  Once worn though, Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream covers the lips completely. Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream Antwerp and San Paulo (3)Texture and Formula – This is the bit where I was expecting Nyx to knock my socks off.  Sadly it didn’t.  The more swipes you make, the more the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream starts to crumble into tiny little bits t – hat stick on your lips. I had to pick off a few each time I wore Antwerp.

Since you need only one or two swipes for San Paulo to cover your lips, the problem is not so pronounced.

There is a little bit of gathering in the fine lines as well.

Staying Power – Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream lasts for a good 4 to 5 hours on me.  If you take a meal however, there is a bit of fading on the inner corners of your lips.  I prefer my lip colour to fade evenly, even if it means a shorter wear time.  I don’t like the uneven fading.

Overall Thoughts

Love the colour, just wish they bettered the formula to work better.  For the price it is a pretty good deal however.  I still wear Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream Antwerp & San Paulo a lot since I don’t have a comparable product currently.  I like the convenience of a gloss as compared to a lipstick – easier to carry in your handbag as they don’t melt in the sweltering heat.
