NYX Red Velvet butter gloss ($5) available at CherryCulture.comMost people buy a lip colour because they like the shade or the formula, I bought this one because I love the cake its named after, red velvet. Thankfully I landed up loving the colour as well 🙂
Shade – NYX Red Velvet butter gloss is a gorgeous burgundy based red. To me it looks like a deep full bodied red wine, something like a zinfandel. It gives a fully glossy finish in one swipe of colour. The colour is very saturated and the look is super juicy and the effect is very very bold. Its perfect for the Indian Skin tone – my Chanel power red has stiff competition.
Pigmentation – The colour is extremely pigmented and covers the lips completely in one swipe. There is a slightly juicy jelly feel with one coat of colour, which I love. However if you want a more opaque look then a second swipe is more than enough to give you a very sultry pout.
Texture and Formula – They aren’t lying when they say “Butter”, NYX Red Velvet butter gloss glides on super smooth, like a hot knife through butter. (Sorry, couldn’t resist the play on words J ) There is no sticky or tacky feeling at all. I love how luscious my lips feel once I apply this. I have to say the formula is comparable to many of the higher end brands.
Staying Power – Once you apply this, NYX Red Velvet butter gloss pretty much stays on until you wipe it off. On me it stayed for over 6 hours and even then it had a tint left over on my lips. In comparison, I have another colour from this range, Strawberry Parfait, which lasts only 2 to 3 hours on me. I guess the super saturated pigmentation is what keeps this on for longer.
The only downside, is the colour is so deep that once it starts fading, the inside of the lips tend to look a bit lighter than the outer edges, the fading is not even. However this is really only visible if you are looking closely, otherwise it’s not really that obvious.
Packaging – Like the other glosses in the NYX range, NYX Red Velvet butter gloss comes in a tube which is the same colour as the shade inside, really helpful for people who have more than one of the colours.
A truly amazing gloss at a superb price point. I wish I had picked up more colours in this range. NYX Red Velvet butter gloss was one of my first, but clearly will not be my last Nyx butter gloss, in fact I’m planning to start a collection. A completely guilt free collection. Move over luxury brands.
