There are some products you have love-hate relationship with. I hate applying mascara because of whole 1 hour process of adding 3 coats without ruining your eye makeup. And even then some formulas aren’t worth your time and efforts. I have been blessed (or cursed) with short, straight and fewer lashes and struggle to transform them into long dense ones is real ! Maybelline mascaras have always been a hit or miss for me, I like colossal but didn’t like hypercurl or falsies mascara. This time, maybe because of the name I decided to spend my money even though I didn’t need a mascara at the moment (since I am head over heels in love with Colorbar Zoom & Whoosh Mascara) still the beauty blogger in me insisted to give Maybelline The Magnum Barbie Mascara a try.

Maybelline The Magnum Barbie Mascara comes in yellow pink packaging. Can’t say I am in love with it, the color scheme does look bit cheap.

The wand of the magnum barbie mascara is slightly curved and hence hugs the eyelashes, making the whole experience swift. The wand has dense bristles that are good for volumising. However it fails in the lengthening department. It has a waterproof formula and hence claims to be – transfer proof, smudge proof and long lasting finish.

I have tried this a couple of times now and can say that I like it for its volumising properties. It adds loads of volume and makes my lashes thick, the kind of lashes I dream for. The fibers based formula does a lot of good things to my lashes 🙂 But you can’t have more than 2 coats or else it makes lashes stiff .

Well after few hours of application I could see it flaking , specially under the lower lashes, which isn’t something I appreciate. I wear concealer all the time under my eyes, and flaky mascara can give you racoon eyes, which isn’t a pleasant sight I must add.

This mascara is difficult to remove if you only use a micellar water. I could see the residue in the lash line and couple of my lashes were stuck together until I used Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover, which is a bi-phased formula and works like magic.

Overall Thoughts

If you are looking for a formula that can add volume then do try Maybelline The Magnum Barbie Mascara. It is a waterproof and long wearing formula, but it flakes a bit. Also use an oil based makeup remover to take it off.
