MAC describes Photogravure as “Soft black with brown undertone”. I was in the lookout for a nice brown technakohl, and this one worked out nicely for me. In formula, soft and creamy, with an intense, rich, colour deposit. Blends on application: dries quickly to a long-wear, non-smudge finish. Versatile. An easy way to line the top and lower lash line of the eye. When applied at a 90 degree angle, provides a thin precision line. For thicker application, apply at a flat angle.

Packaging: The eye pencil is a slim, dark wand with a retractable tip. The bottom of the wand shows the color of the pencil, so it is not too difficult to find this among my stash of makeup. The product travels well and fits easily inside my purse – which is a huge plus point for it.MAC Technakohl Liner Photogravure Review Swatches Photos (3)Texture and Formula: The texture of MAC Technakohl liner Photogravure is very soft and it glides on very easily on my eye lids. However, I need to put on a couple of swipes for this color to gain intensity. On my lower lash line, it takes a little bit of work for this to stick, but it still goes in nicely. The formula after setting in refuses to budge from its place.

Pigmentation and Color: I was very confused about the color of this eye pencil. It is supposed to be soft black with brown undertones. However, on me, it is more of a muddy brown with no glitter or shimmer, and as I have slightly dark eyelids, although it does show up on them, it does not show up too intensely. I need to generally swipe it two-three times to get the color to really show, and if smudging, it has to be done fast, because once this sets, it sticks well. Staying Power: On my waterline, this color does not last very long, only about 3-4 hours, but on my lids it easily lasts for 8 hours. I wore this through the day twice and came back with minor smudging and fading after around 7 hours of staying out.

Overall Thought

If you are looking for a good quality brown which will show up on Indian skin tone, then Photogravure is definitely to be considered. It is smooth, glides on easily, and does not budge once it sets. Although I would not say the color is unique, it is still an alternative to using black liner.

It’s a quite dark and pretty shade of brown that would show up well on dark eyelids too. Nice review. 🙂

mostly it does, but on me its not that great. Still, a good color for my eyes when I dont want to make my eyes too dark.
