MAC Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation Review Price Photos

I am not a fan of MAC Foundations. It may be because of being matched to the wrong shade of foundation so many times. Also, maybe because most of the MAC Foundations end up looking cakey on me. I love their powder foundations though. The Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation is a staple in my makeup stash. The only Liquid foundation I swear by is MAC face & body one. I absolutely love it. But during the extreme summers it not only melts off of me, it also tends to become very oily. My T-zone looks like a greasy pit after a few hours. I wanted something for the summers. Now that this rage of serum based gel foundation that give skin-like finish has taken over the makeup world, MAC also jumped on to the bandwagon. And, they came up with the MAC Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation.

Initially I wasn’t that intrigued when they launched it in India. But when I heard many International beauty bloggers saying good things about it, and when some even raved that they finally found a MAC foundation they could love, I was very much tempted and went ahead and bought this. And I think I have a new favourite from MAC.

Description according to MAC

Introducing an innovative foundation that delivers colour in an ultra-fluid, elastic gel- serum formula. With a virtually weightless feel, this formula is extraordinarily comfortable, lasting for hours. With stay-true colour and sheer medium buildable coverage, it softly blurs imperfections such as pores and fine lines, while also controlling oil. The addition of Moisture-Fusion Complex provides immediate and all-day hydration, leaving skin feeling quenched and silky to the touch. The unique dropper provides you with a drop of perfection.

Packaging – MAC Studio Waterweight foundation comes in a frosted glass bottle with a dropper to dispense the product. It is an apt packaging for this foundation because it a serum based one. And with this kind of packaging there is no leakage, product wastage or secretion of product on the bottle mouth and cap. Though it is glass bottle I find it travel friendly and lightweight. And the bottle looks very attractive too. I am sold with the packaging.

Shade – There is a plethora of options shade wise for this foundation. That’s one of the things I love about MAC foundations. But, that’s also the reason you get matched wrong. So, to avoid that, I carried a sample of my own from home and matched my shade according to it. I picked up the shade NC40 and it was perfect for me.

Texture & Finish – The foundation is very lightweight, watery, thin and of runny consistency. The foundation spreads easily on the skin and sets to a velvety satin finish. It looks very natural and skin-like. It feels quite weightless on the skin. You can hardly feel or see the product on your face once it sets. I find the best way to apply the foundation is with your fingers, because the formula is very runny. Using a brush or sponge will lead to product absorption and hence wastage. It has the typical MAC foundation type fragrance, which fades away within minutes. Hence, it’s not an issue.

Coverage – MAC Studio Waterweight foundation is sheer to medium coverage. It is buildable and you can build it to the desired effect without having it look cakey or made up. But, for very heavy scars and blemishes I would advise to use a concealer separately as it won’t cover it. For my combination skin, it’s perfect. The foundation sinks into my skin easily and sets fast to a satin velvety finish. It is not dewy or shiny, but very skin like. It covers the pores and makes my skin look so natural. I love the fact that it doesn’t look like I have applied any foundation on my skin. It gives a healthy glow to my skin.

Those who like full coverage may not like this foundation. I personally do not prefer full coverage foundations, as I feel my skin is not able to breathe with those kinds of foundations. The people who like MAC Face and Body Foundation would love this one. But, unlike the latter this foundation controls oil and doesn’t get greasy. Though it is mentioned in the description to be hydrating, it doesn’t really give your skin any hydration as such but, it doesn’t dry out your skin either.

Staying Power – MAC Studio Waterweight Foundation wears on my skin for 5-6 hours without a primer. But, with a hydrating primer it lasts up to 8 hours. People with normal to combination skin would love this. People with very oily skin can also carry off this foundation, just set it with a light powder on top and blot it throughout the day.  And people with very dry skin need to moisturise their skin before applying this foundation. But, overall it suits all skin type. It doesn’t crease or cling to lines. It doesn’t transfer much. At least not as much as other MAC foundations do.

Overall Thoughts

MAC Studio Waterweight is a great foundation for people with minimal skin issues. It is the perfect formula for people who are looking for a lightweight medium coverage foundation to even out their skin tone and give it a very natural and skin-like finish. You can get away with wearing this foundation on an everyday basis, it is that natural looking. It has become one of my favourites and I am looking forward to using this one in the extreme summers.
