MAC Russian Red Lipstick (1450/- INR) Available at MAC stores
This Red lipstick does not need any introduction as it is one of the hottest selling MAC Lipstick and by far the most gorgeous RED lipstick I came across in MAC’s permanent line. MAC Russian Red was my first red lipstick from MAC and the shade which I recommend whenever someone asks for “must have Mac lipstick “.
Shade – MAC Russian Red is deep Cherry Red shade with neutral undertones to it, it is described as intense bluish red but to me it more neutral toned if I compare this to another classic blue based red – RUBY WOO. It is timeless Classic Red shade which you can find in anyone’s collection who loves Red lips. Every brand has some famous shades of Red and in MAC this is the one which still sells like hot cakes.
Texture and Formula – Russian Red is from matte finish range which appears velvety matte to me as there is soft subtle sheen to it , it is not flat out matte like retro matte . I find they are easy to glide and feel creamy if your lips are well hydrated. It may appear patchy if you have flaky lips.
Pigmentation – MAC Russian Red is a gorgeously pigmented lipstick and needs single layer to get opaque coverage.
Staying Power – As it from matte finish I get 5 plus hrs of wear with this shade and then it leave behind nice subtle red tint. I love how long lasting it is and doesn’t leave my lips dry once it wears off.
Overall thoughts
A Classic Red which is a must have in everyone’s vanity, I prefer MAC Russian Red over MAC Ruby woo for the basic reason; this being little easy to wear and stays nicely too plus I find this more flattering on our warm Indian Olive skin tone. If you haven’t tried this then do rush to your nearest MAC store, there prices are increasing every other month I guess.
