The color was initially launched as a part of MAC’s collection in association with Mickey Contractor, and included iconic colors like Tabla, Yash and MAC Mehr. It was made permanent probably in 2012, and I was smitten by the range. I loved Mehr from this range, which remains my favorite MAC pink of all time, and Double Shot is not far behind. It is from a set of colors which I daresay would suit Indian skin tones pretty well.

Packaging: The packaging is basic MAC, black and silver, and it travels well.

Texture and Formula: MAC Double Shot is a part of their amplified finish range. I daresay, this shade fulfils all the requirements which anyone would generally look from that range. The texture is creamy and it glides on my lips easily, and spreads well. I love lining my lips with a nude pencil and then apply this shade. The color makes my lips look plumper than they really are, and the formula is quite hydrating. I love the fact that this does not dry out my lips at all, and yet, does not bleed all over my face either. The smell is classic vanilla as all MAC permanent lipsticks are.

Shade: MAC describes Double Shot as a full bodied mocha cream and I would tend to agree with this assessment, but I have to add that on my lips it has a slight hint of rosy pink and mauve, which just totally changes the entire shade’s perception. On the bullet it is a dark, dull brown, but when applied, it transforms into a warm pinky brown without any shimmers or glitters, slightly more brown than MAC Brick-o-la, but a great color, especially when you really cannot make up your mind and want a shade which will not be overwhelming. A great shade when you have done heavy eye makeup and want something more neutral for the lips. The shade is darker than MAC Mocha and quite close to Street Wear Brownie Pie Stay on lip color.

Pigmentation: The pigmentation is superb, and one swipe is enough. The lipstick has an opaque coverage, which is a great thing, and it does settle a bit on my lip lines once a couple of hours have gone past. However, since there are no glitters or shimmers, my lips aren’t complaining.

Staying Power: This is another place where this shade wins. I thought it would last me around 3-4 hours, but this lipstick stayed on for 6 plus hours easily, without me eating anything, and drinking water from a bottle.

Overall Thought

I cannot think of a single con of MAC Double Shot. It is a great color for Indian skin tone, and a good one to wear to office. It is dark enough to not wash me out and looks great on most people.

Rating: 5/5
