MAC 217 Blending Brush (Price – 1800) Available at MAC stores across India
I am back with another eye brush review from our loyal brand – MAC, and this time it is their most famous brush from permanent line – 217. I do agree with all the hype around this brush and also recommend in investing one but not for eye shadow; if you are new and the simple reason is that it takes some effort to get hang of this.
Description by the company – For shading or blending of colour or creamy products. This brush has fine, densely packed fibers that are arranged in an oval shape. M·A·C professional brushes are hand-sculpted and assembled using the finest quality materials. They feature wood handles and nickel-plated brass ferrules.
Length – 17 cm
This brush comes with natural white hair and is densely packed and has a curved top so that it blends in the product well. I find this brush is particularly good for blending concealer rather than eye shadow and the reason is it is not good in fading away and doesn’t blend the product seamlessly. If you have a heavy hand and try using this brush it may leave harsh lines and uneven product. That being said, if you are good in blending and have light hand there is nothing better than MAC 217.
When I purchased this brush some 6 years back I was fairly new and use to spoil the look as this brush picks a lot of colour if not paid attention and blending was a difficult task , but now I use this on and off for eye shadows and regularly for concealers .
Useful for – I find this brush particularly useful for applying concealer and blending in , for powder eye shadows and cream shadows I feel that it takes a little effort , may leave harsh lines if you pick too much colour as the bristles are tightly packed .
Overall Thoughts
Where the brush is extremely popular for blending in eye shadow, I feel MAC 217 Brush is good for blending in concealer – a creamy product due to natural hair and denser feel. If you are new to MAC brushes then consider buying MAC 239 brush instead of this as there are many good blending brush in same price range from Lancôme and Shiseido – wait for that in coming posts.
