L’Oreal Youth Code Youth Booster Serum Review

L’Oreal Youth Code Youth Booster Serum (Rs 1450 for 30ml) from Flipkart.comL'Oreal Youth Code Serum Youth Booster Serum review india (1)L’Oreal Youth Code Serum is something I have used over and over again.  I keep trying out new stuff but come back to this old favorite – its time I declared this my holy grail.

L’Oreal calls this An instant boost of youthfulness. Skin looks younger and more luminous. The serum uses the patented Pro-Gen technology and is supposed to work at a genetic level to halt the process  of ageing.

Texture – You need only about 4 to 5 drops of L’Oreal Youth Code serum to cover your entire face and neck. The texture is extremely soft and melts into your skin immediately getting absorbed completely.  There is a very refreshing mild fragrance which I love.

The serum is not thick or oily closer to a watery gel like substance.

Packaging – The bottle it comes in, is made of glass and has a dropper.  I normally prefer a pump dispenser for skincare as it makes sure the bacteria is kept out.  Infact the same serum sold in the US comes in a pump bottle.   Wish L’Oreal would roll that out here as well.

The bottle is black with a gradient so its opaque at the top and starts getting clearer at the base.  So when the bottle is full, you can’t tell how much serum is inside, but as you start emptying this out, you get an idea of the quantity inside.L'Oreal Youth Code Serum Youth Booster Serum review india (3)My experience

I have been using L’Oreal Youth Code Serum for years now and find it absolutely perfect for my skin, i.e. combination sensitive skin that is prone to break outs.  I use this in conjunction with the L’Oreal Paris Hydrafresh deep boosting essence for most of the year.  I first use the Youth code serum and then layer the Hydrafresh boosting essence on top.  This combination has worked wonders for my skin.  It feels soft, hydrated, and clean at all times.  I hate very heavy creams that create break out and ever since I have started using this combination, the results are amazing.  When it gets a little cooler I use Youth code serum but alter the cream that I layer on top.

The only thing L’Oreal Youth Code Serum doesn’t take care of, is dark spots, which I get once in a while.  I also see no signs of wrinkles on my 4 decade old face, so I guess, this serum is doing something right.

Now to address the elephant in the room.  Those of you who are familiar with Lancôme Genifique will find that the bottle looks extremely similar.  Well, that may not be a very big coincidence.  L’Oreal owns, Lancôme (amongst over a dozen other beauty brands as well).  A lot of noise has been going on about how similar these two formulae are.  L'Oreal Youth Code Serum Youth Booster Serum review india (2)Well, I have tried both, used two large bottles of Genifique, before I decided to try Youth Code out.  Yes, there is a difference no doubt.  I don’t think people would be willing to pay over 500% higher just for a name, formula being the same.   However, these two are very similar.  Genifique feels far more luxurious and sinks in just that little bit faster.  It also seems to restore tired and damaged skin faster.

Having said that, once the skin has been restored, both work more or less the same.  So if you have reasonably good skin, L’Oreal youth code is a great substitute at a much lower price point.

Overall Thoughts

I always make sure I have a standby in my drawer.  I use L’Oreal Youth Code Serum day and night and vary the products I use over this if required.  Having used the much pricier twin, I can safely say I feel very guilt free using an extra pump of this whenever needed.  Sometimes I deliberately take a few drops more and once I’m done applying on my face and neck I spread the rest on my hands.  It feels absolutely amazing.   A very worth indulgence.
