Whilst companies keep churning out new ranges every few months, there are some workhorses that have been around for a while, people keep going back to them after trying out the shiny new ones.  Color Riche is one such range that I recall has been around for a while in the same avatar.

I got myself a new shade, Spicy Mauve and decided to do a comparision with a trusty old shade, Sparkling Amethyst, that I have had for a while.

Packaging – The old shade Sparkling Amethyst, I have is in a shiny gold case with a “Made for me Intense” sticker.  It is also more in quantity, at 4.7gms.  The new shade I just got, Spicy Mauve is in a matte gold case.  I don’t know whether this is because of a change in packaging or because it is to reflect the difference in the finishes of both colours, one sparkling and one cream.   Sparkling Amethyst is still available online and at counters.

Shade – Sparkling Amethyst is a really deep jewel toned burgundy amethyst. The shade name is pretty spot on except I feel there are more reddish and deep berry tones rather than true amethyst.  There is a lot of shimmer in the colour that translates into a rich impact.

Spicy Mauve is the good little sister, no shimmer, less punch, but super work friendly. The shade is pure cream, with no shimmer, glitter or shine.  It is a basic mauve, again a really correct name.

I like the two a lot, both for different occasions. L'Oreal Sparkling Amethyst, Spicy Mauve Color Riche Lipstick Review Swatches (5)

Texture – Sparkling Amethyst has a lot of visible glitter, however goes on completely smooth on the lips.  Spicy Mauve is a cream and has the same lovely texture that glides on giving complete coverage in one stroke.

Neither of these are long lasting and so have a very creamy luxurious texture.  They make the lips feel nice and pampered.

Pigmentation – My experience with most lip shades is that the darker one is also more pigmented and dense.  The lighter one, Spicy Mauve is indeed less pigmented.

Longevity – The Sparkling Amethyst stays on much longer, 3 to 4 hours.  It leaves a bit of a stain though not much.  Spicy Mauve on the other hand, stays only as long as the first cup of coffee.  It leaves absolutely no stain on the lips.  I actually don’t mind reapplying a colour so I don’t hold that against it.

Overall Thoughts

Both really nice shades.  Spicy Mauve works really well for work wear and when you want less attention on your lips.  Sparkling Amethyst works well for evening wear and draws attention to your pout.  The texture and formula on both are excellent.  Both are nice to have as staples in your makeup wardrobe.

Rating 4/5
