L’Oréal Paris Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer Review

I wasn’t a primer person because I thought they are meant for combination-oily skin. However as the years passed, fine lines started making their appearance on my forehead, and thanks to the habit of making faces all the time, I have some laugh lines as well. Those fine lines may look cute but not with makeup on, when it starts creasing or setting in those lines, and that’s when a smoothing primer comes into the picture. I have L’Oréal Paris Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer for almost 1 year now and I use it off and on, especially during summers.

L’Oréal Paris Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer comes in a round pot which is quite heavy & small. Dipping in fingers isn’t the best thing, since you get some product under the nails, which is gross as well as unhygienic.

Moving on to the texture of this primer, I find it quite thick. It fills in pores & fine lines, providing a smooth base for makeup. Foundation definitely glides on easily and looks better than when you use it without primer. I have a sweaty T-Zone which gets a little shiny by the end of the day. The primer keep it shine free , however I don’t see it doing much for sweat part. I have to use a compact powder to keep blotting so that the makeup doesn’t slide off.

I find the formula a bit too thick for my liking, it feels like a paste and moves around if you don’t blend it nicely. Also make sure to take a break of 5 minutes and let it set so that the makeup doesn’t make it move or slide. That is one of the reasons why I don’t use it as much as I should. I prefer a gel based face primer or a hydrating primer with a lotion like consistency (similar to Makeup Forever HD Primer).

Overall Thoughts

If your pores or fine lines trouble you than L’Oréal Paris Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer is a good choice. I have heard people with oily skin raving about it. It does make the makeup go on smoothly and stay for a longer time. The pot packaging is unhygienic and inconvenient though.
