Leighton Denny Crystal Nail File Review

Leighton Denny Crystal Nail File (12.5 GBP) available on feelunique.comLeighton Denny Crystal Nail File (2)

So who reviews something as mundane as a nail file?  Really?  Well apparently all nail files aren’t created equal.  This is something I discovered a few years back when I decided to bite the bullet and buy a nail file for 12.5 GBP. There is a reason this one is called “The Rolls Royce of nail files”.  It has also won some pretty big name awards, including one from Harpers Bazaar.

Product

This is a genuine crystal nail file that comes in a flip top aluminium box.  This is what the brand says about the file. “For all nail types. With the Crystal files you can file back and forth unlike standard emery boards.  The surface of the file comes with a life-time guarantee. Its unique surface seals the ends of the nails and helps with peeling and splitting.”

Leighton Denny Crystal Nail File can be cleaned with warm water when you feel the surface has gone a little dull.  Once washed, it is as good as new.

My experience

I have always hated filing my nails, it gives me goose-bumps…something like the sound nails make on a blackboard, remember that from school… eeks.

The traditional nail files made of metal and emery are, well, nail files.  What I hate is the little bit of nail edge still left off when I finish filing my nails.  The job is done but not really clean.  Moreover the metal ones blunt after a few months of use, the emery ones go much faster.

When I read rave reviews about the Leighton Denny Crystal nail file, I decided to try it for myself.  I have been using it for over 5 years now and it is as good as the day it was bought.

Firstly it comes in a nice flip top case so I can store it easily.  The file is supposed to have a lifetime guarantee.  That’s nice when you are dropping a really large sum of money on something as mundane and basic as this.

The file is really fast, it just turns the nail bits you are working on, into dust.  It is extremely easy to use and my nails are done in half the time that a normal file would take.  The file is supposed to protect the nails from peeling and splitting, and it does exactly that.  My nails are weak and normal files tend to get them to split. Ever since I’ve started using this file, I have had no problems of splitting or peeling.   I just love the quick clean finish it gives the nails, the grit is really fine and flies off as dust.  No residue to clean off later.

I was a little worried about how delicate this may be, considering it is made of crystal, however this is quite sturdy.  I don’t think this will break easily – I have dropped it a couple of times and it seems ok.

Possible Dupes

As it is with all cult products, there are dupes available for this one as well.  Sephora has come up with its own version of the crystal file and the mini one is available for $8.

OPI has its own one, but that costs a little more on the sites I have visited.

A Czech brand called Mont Bleu has crystal files made of original Czech glass and decorated beautifully.  Reviewed HERE

Overall Thoughts

Though filing your nails seems like a minor activity it is so basic to nail care that it pays to get the right tools.  I am really glad I changed my routine and got Leighton Denny Crystal Nail File for myself.  It has turned out to be a pretty savvy investment.
