Lakme India Fashion Week – Day 4
The last but one day at Lakme India Fashion Week saw some really interesting collections as well as some very big name celebrities walking the ramp. There was also a Lakme Masterclass featuring Sarah Jane Dias.
Sanjay Hingu presented his “Back to School” collection for his menswear line, drawing inspiration from the nostalgia associated with carefree school days. His line consisted of suits in playful colours, with checks and digital prints.
Kommal Sood’s collection was aimed at the resort and holiday dresser. The fabrics were metallic and the flowing with crystal embellishments to create a very luxurious effect. The show stopper was the lovely Kalki in a flowing golden sequined gown. Ritika Mirchandani presented her collection on the Jabong Stage, a side stage next to the main show area. What caught my attention was the use of ivory and indigo with bold gold geometric embroidery. Actress Amrita Puri ended the show in a white lehenga and gold embroidered blouse.
A very different and interesting collection was presented by Farah Sanjana. Called “The Flamboyance of Flamingos’”, this collection drew inspiration from the flamingos of France. The pieces were delicate and flowing and the large flamingo prints gave a very resort wear vibe to all the pieces.
Shehla Khan’s collection was one of my favorites of the day. The colour palette was soft and the gowns were embellished with crystals and decorated with beaded tassels a la Hollywood in the 1920s .The tassels swayed beautifully as the models made their way down the ramp creating a very fluid and flirty look. Nargis Fakri walked the ramp in a cream net gown with a mini inner as celebrity Hard Kaur looked on.
Another Interesting event was the Jabong Street style show where the designers walked with their own style muses. It was fun, out of the box and extremely enjoyable with Model Carol Gracias as the compere.
I also had the opportunity to interact with founder of Baggit, Nina Lekhi. Nina says she wakes up each morning and decided on what shoes and bag to carry each day, and then draws inspiration from the accessories to choose the rest of her outfit for the day. Her message to the readers of the blog is to shake up your routine and try doing this for a change! I am definitely going to give this thought a whirl.
Overall Thoughts
Another exceptional day spent in at Lakme India Fashion Week. My favorite collections were by Farah Sanjana and Shehla Khan, both very unique and exotic.
