Kerastase Specifique Sensidote, like the name sounds, is a highly specialized treatment specifically for people who have a sensitive scalp.  Daily we subject ourselves hair and scalp to a number of activities that can damage the skin on our scalp.  Also, some of us have sensitivities that need to be addressed.  This is where Kerastase Sensidote comes into the picture.

Packaging – This comes in a bottle with a dropper attached.  The idea is to use the dropper to cover your scalp with drops of this clear fluid.  Be careful when you open it and are using it, it can tip over spilling out the entire contents.  The bottle and dropper are both made of glass, so you need to be doubly careful handling this, cause it doesn’t come cheap.

Texture – This is a very light serum, almost comparable to water.  I was actually unable to take a picutre of the liquid because each time I placed a drop on my palm, it would sink into the skin before I could even click the image.  So that should give you an idea of how easily it gets absorbed into the skin.  This is exactly how it works when you place a drop on your scalp.  Of course, you can just feel it sinking in but cant really see it there.

My experience

I have a reasonably aggravated scalp that flakes and gets red in spots, sometimes the spots resemble small acne.  I have always found this strange since my skin is clear and I have never really suffered from acne on my face.

I have even approached a couple of dermatologists who have given me medication to apply.  This works while I’m using the medication and then it reverses back.  I also don’t like using medication on my scalp for extended periods of time since ultimately your skin is also an organ and it absorbs everything you put on it.

I have started using Kerastase Specifique Sensidote Dermo-Calm for a while and it works great.  It is really gentle, does not affect the quality and texture of the hair, whilst effectively calming down the scalp. Kerastase earlier had a similar product called Nocto-calm which I used for a few years.  This is now the replacement for Nocto-Calm and has the same effect of the predecessor.

All you need to do is run over your full scalp, focusing on the problem areas. You will need about 20 to 25 drops totally.  Then you need to rub it in gently.  Make sure you don’t use this before using a heat styling tool since it will evaporate completely, making the effort useless.

Overall Thoughts

If, unfortunately, you have a sensitive damaged scalp, Kerastase Specifique Sensidote Dermo-Calm is definitely worth checking out.  It’s better to check with your stylist before using it since she can see parts of your scalp far better than you can.  I got mine when my stylist recommended this to me.  I can’t thank her enough.  I love it and I use it when I need it – that is, when my scalp is particularly aggravated and needs to be calmed.
