Illamasqua Hydra Veil Review Swatches Photos

Illamasqua Hydra Veil (£30 for 30ml) from ebay.comIllamasqua Hydra Veil review india (1)Illamasqua is one of the most innovative cosmetics companies around and its no surprise that this super innovative product comes from them.

Illamasqua Hydra Veil is another one of those products that defies definition.  It is a cosmetic product and not a skin care one, however this works to make your skin look radiant and hydrated.  It doesnt actually improve your skin texture, just makes it look that way.  It also doubles up as a nice primer.

PackagingWhat I have is a travel exclusive, travel size and therefore is part of a set and is not the normal packaging.  This one comes in a tube form, whereas the actual individual full size one comes in a jar with a lid and a small scoop.  I actually much prefer the tube because it is far more hygienic this way.

Texture and FormulaIllamasqua Hydra Veil feels like a gel to the touch, similar to a number of silcone based primers.  It is not thick or sticky but there is a clear feeling of using a gel.  The little dot of hydra veil actually glistened like a clear pearl when I was taking images for the post.

ProductAs a hydrating instant pick up – this kind of failed me.  I already have pretty good skin and this really didn’t make much difference on using.  For those of you with really dry skin, this will really work well.  I don’t think I will be using this much as a complexion enchancer.  I prefer going with a BB cream if I want a natural look.  Again, in cooler climates this may work better to hydrate

As a primer, Illamasqua Hydra Veil performs really well.  I love the way the make up goes on and how long it stays.Illamasqua Hydra Veil review india (2)Staying PowerMy makeup went on really easily on using this as a base.  It is also a lot lighter than the MAC Prep + Prime that I normally use.  I like this one a lot.

My makeup stayed on for over 8 hours when I used this. I am going to be saving this and using this as a primer when I need my makeup to stay fresh longer.

Overall Thoughts

I love Illamasqua Hydra Veil as a primer.  I can’t however understand the cult following that is has created.  It works well, but I won’t be turning cartwheels for this anyway.   It is also pretty pricy for a primer.  There are a number of high end primers that will be in a more afforable range.

If you have really dry skin, do give it a try however, but definitely try the product before buying.

Heard loads about it…but as you said and reviewed ,it sounds quite simple to me…
There are lot of products that i too feel create a lot of hype and when i use it they are just good to very good and not brilliant! 🙂

You’re so correct, it’s important to cut thru the clutter and not succumb to hype. That’s why I love travel sets, you get to try out a lot of products without coughing up for the full size.

Good review. Agree with you, when there are better high end primers available, why spend heavy on something that just performs well. Loved the cute tube packaging though!

Sometimes our weather conditions are so different that these work very differently.

This seems just like any other primer that works and not something that can be used to give hydration all day! 😐

Well it’s supposed to, and I’ve seen rave reviews but sadly enough didn’t work for me
