How To lighten Dark Knees & elbows

Oil massage: Oil massage is a traditional good old method followed till today for skin care. You can use any of your favourite edible oil or essential oils (like coconut oil, almond oil, baby oil, mustard oil, olive oil, sandalwood oil and many more).

Procedure: Oil massaging elbows and knees gently in circular motions for good lubrication and improving blood circulation. Leave it for an hour and continue your regular shower. Natural oils retain and boost moisture in the dark skin making them smooth and glow. Repeat the process regularly before shower for quick results.

Lemon: Lemon is a known antioxidant and a natural bleaching agent that lightens skin tone and help scrub away dead skin.

Procedure: Squeeze lemon juice to your elbows and knees; also rub citrus fruit to the joints.  Leave the juice for an hour and wash out.  You will find the skin fading in couple of weeks.

Turmeric: Turmeric is an antiseptic which clears dirt and germs making the skin rigid. Turmeric also helps reducing melanin in skin which makes skin fair. Mix the spice with any moisturising ingredient for good results.

Procedure: Mix a pinch of turmeric with yogurt/milk. Apply the paste to elbows, ankles and knees and wash after drying.

Potato: The starchy potato help to remove dead damage skin and its vitamin C bleaches skin fading the dark skin.

Procedure:  Mix mashed potatoes with honey or rose water. The mixture provides bleaching and moisturising effect.

Milk/yogurt:  The lactic acid in the dairy acts as a bleaching agent lightening skin. However milk/yogurt itself has moisturising effect too.

Procedure:  Make a paste of milk/yogurt and gram flour is an age old pack for skin goodness. Apply the paste and rub your fingers gently. The paste is a excellent whitener and smoothes skin.

Butter: Milk butter, cocoa butter or shea butter is rich in natural fats which are good to soothe the hard skin.

Procedure: apply the cream to the dark area and wash away with water. You may find the oil traces even after removal, let it retain so that your skin feels hydrated for long hours.

Aloe Vera GelThe natural oils in the soothing aloe gel heal the damaged skin and penetrate deep into the skin. Its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties clear germs and calms skin irritations.

Procedure: slice up the aloe gel and rub the flesh to the discoloured areas. Repeat the process before shower on regular basis.

How to avoid Dark elbows and Knees?

  • Do not lean your elbows and knees for resting. This encourages dark and hard skin.
  • Make a habit of greasing the friction areas with lotions and creams even when you are in a hurry. Sunscreens are also a good choice.
  • Lubrication of joints either by natural oils or creams at bed time reduces discolouration.
  • Scrubbing the rough joints by pumice stone or exfoliating brush during shower removes dead skin.
  • Waxing the joints helps to remove the upper layer of dirt and dry skin whitening the skin for some approach.
  • The home remedies take a minimum of 2 weeks to show results depending on your skin hardness and colour. Be patient till the remedies are effective on your skin and these remedies are permanent solutions.
