Hair Smoothening Vs. Straightening – Which one to choose?

Admit this, every time you see a person with beautifully styled hair, you wish to get the same at some point or the other! Almost every one of us is confused on what the best treatment for Smooth hair is. This article shall give you an idea about Hair Smoothening and Hair Straightening, and will help you choose between them. Hair Smoothening Vs. Straightening - Which one to choose?

To start with, Hair Smoothening is a process done to get the hair frizz free and shiny. It makes the hair smooth and manageable. The basic difference between smoothening and straightening is that smoothening makes your hair straight but not poker straight. Even though some might find poker straight hair to be fancy, but it is still not in trend these days!

Hair smoothing process focuses mainly on the outer surface of the hair strands. The process for smoothening takes about 2.5 to 3 hours depending on your hair length. They start off the treatment with hair wash, post which they apply a cream onto the hair. This cream has to be kept on for 30 minutes. Later it is rinsed off and dried. The hair is ironed very precisely after which another coat of cream is applied. Further, this cream is too washed off. Hair is now thoroughly dried and it leaves your hair really straight.

After Hair Smoothening you have to protect your hair from getting wet for 2-3 days.  You can’t tie your hair or clip it and after that your hair shall be washed by the salon person, after which you can continue your own hair care routine. Make sure to use only products suggested by the hairdresser or else it may damage the quality of your hair. This effect stays for 6 to 8 months and if you are lucky even one year

Whereas Hair straightening is the process by which hair strands are made poker straight. This treatment first uses cream to break the bonds of the hair stands known as relaxant. The next step involved in this process is ironing the hair. This will make the hair straight. Later to this straightened hair, a cream is applied to set the hair strands (neutralizer). Between each process the hair is rinsed before the application of new cream based products. After the final rinse you will not be allowed to wash or tie your hair. After 2 days the hair will be washed by the hairdresser and then you can follow your normal hair care routine. For medium length hair the process would take 3 hours. Unlike hair smoothing, this treatment focuses on the whole of the hair section.

This treatment is a vicious cycle, since you have to get touch up done on the new hair every 2 months. If not done your virgin hair will look curly, while the rest straight, which doesn’t look nice.

If you are looking for a result where you want a little bit of volume in your hair, then you can do hair smoothening. But if you want your hair to be totally straight and want to cut down some time in straightening your hair every day, choose Hair Straightening treatment.

Both these treatments could range from 6k to 8k and will increase with the length of your hair. Make sure to choose a reputed hair salon and take the hair dresser’s opinion.

No matter what treatment you choose, it would have side effects like hair fall and this will depend from person to person! Hope this article helps you in choosing the right hair treatment.
