How To Get Rid Of Acne – My Experience

Almost 3 months back when I visited a dermatologist for the first time for Uneven Skintone issues, she told me that I have acne too. I always had these small bumps around my jawline and I used to think that its OK to have some bumps. I never thought that even dry skin can get acne.

I had dry skin so I used to put on highly moisturizing creams on my face. Some of them might have suffocated my skin and caused break outs. So after consulting the dermatologist I changed all the products from my skincare regime. These are the points to remember when you have acne prone skin –skincare routine for dry acne prone skin

Clean Skin

I used to wash my face once daily before going to bed but now I wash twice daily. In the morning using Sebamed Foaming Face Wash. This cleanser is very mild and good for dry acne prone skin. Apply this foaming wash on face, leave it for 1-2 minutes and then wash it off. This product can be purchased online. During Night I use Neutrogena Acne Free Wash. It has 2% salicylic acid that helps in preventing acne. Make sure not to use this cleanser twice or more as it might make dry skin flaky.

Spot Treatment

Initially I use to get a lot of acne break outs, I used Supatret C Aqueous Gel for spot treatment. Some use Benzoyl Peroxide too but I can’t comment as to how effective later is. I have used Supatret C daily for a month and now use it only when I break out. Apply gel on the acne/ break outs , leave it for 30 mins and then wash it off with water.

Use a Toner Daily

I use Clinique Clarifying Lotion once a day during nigh time. I use it after cleansing my face using a cotton round. I gently sweep it across my face and can see dirt on the pad. I don’t have large pores but those who have, toner helps to tighten the pores and take out the oil or dirt trapped in them. Always use a toner according to your skin type.

Use Oil free & non – comedogenic skincare / makeup products

Girls with acne prone skin should always look for oil free & non – comedogenic products. Non- comedogenic products wouldn’t clog pores and prevent break outs. These days almost all the skincare products have it mentioned on them, whether they are oil free or not. You can try Neutorgena, Sebamed & Olay since their products are suitable for acne prone skin. While buying makeup you can always check if the certain product is oil free or not.

Use a Moisturizer Daily

No matter how oily or acne prone skin one may have, moisturizing is necessary. I use Clinique Dramatically Different Lotion which is light and non greasy. If you are looking for a light weight non greasy Sunscree, Try out Lotus Sunscreen Matte Gel SPF 50. I have been using this sunscreen and it hasn’t broken me out.

Exfoliate & Face Pack

I use St.Ives Face Scrub Twice a week, that helps me to get rid of dead cells that clog pores and cause acne. Its non comedogenic and wouldn’t cause break out. I love how gentle it is.  I use Aloe Vera Gel (Thrice a week), Giovanni D:Tox Purifying Facial Mask (Twice a week).

Apart from all this I also use Rosehip Oil (Daily in the night). Rosehip Oil has lightened acne scars a lot. I will have detailed review of the same up soon. Please remember not oils trigger break outs/ acne.

Acne from my jawline has gone completely but I do breakout at that time of month a bit. Do let me know if there is a product or tip that has worked for your acne prone skin and I will include them in this post. This is all I do for my skin and it has been working well.
