Bobbi Brown’s Festive Makeup Tips

“Nothing lights up the face like shimmer” – Bobbi Brown.Bobbi Brown Black Velvet Sparkle Eyeshadow

There’s no time like the Indian festival season to wear shimmery makeup; it’s such an easy way to make your look more festive and glamorous without going over the top. A little shimmer definitely goes a long way. My rule of thumb is to only wear it on one part of your face during the day and on no more than two spots at night so you don’t look overdone. If you are wearing a gleaming body product on your shoulders and/or décolletage for an evening out, use shimmer to accentuate only one facial feature to avoid glimmer overload.

Face : Set concealer and foundation with Sheer Finish Loose Powder to make them longer-lasting and to ensure that skin looks matte in pictures. If your dress has an open neckline, be sure to warm up your neck and chest with a dusting of Bronzing Powder.

Cheeks : A hint of glimmer on cheeks will give you a more radiant dewy-looking complexion than going with a blush that is matte. For skin that looks lit-from within, focus on applying the Shimmer Brick Compact on top of the cheekbones. This shimmering, brush-on powder creates a deep, bronzy glow. Bobbi recommends Shimmer Brick Compact in Sandstone

Eyes : a) To make eyes pop, apply the Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink along the upper lashline, making sure the line is thick enough to be visible when your eyes are open. Use an eye liner brush to smudge the line before eyeliner sets.

b) Smooth the Smokey Eye Kajal Liner in Noir on the top inner rim and bottom lashline of the eyes for extra drama. The Smokey Eye look is incredibly wearable and transitions effortlessly from day to night.

c) Brush a sparkling powder shadow from your lashlines to your creases for a dressed up, festive look. If you have fair skin try a pale gold, soft beige, or pale silver. If you are medium-complected go for rose or gold. Darker skin tones are best complimented by bronze. Bobbi recommends Sparkle Eyeshadows in Smokey Quartz and Silver Lilac

Lips: The light-reflecting properties of shimmery lipsticks and lip glosses give the illusion of fuller lips, while creating a luscious looking sheen. For day, choose lipsticks and lip glosses that mimic your natural lip color—you’ll get a fresh and pretty look that’s not over the top. Go a shade or two deeper than your daytime lipstick or gloss for the evening. Bobbi recommends Rich Lip Colors in Bright Poppy and Ibiza PinkRich_Lip_Color_Color_Pops_Oct 2014Nails: I think it’s more modern when nails, eyes and lips aren’t an exact match. Personally, I like the contrast of a soft makeup look with a darker nail polish color. If you want to make a bold statement with both your makeup and nails use different intensities of one color. For example, if you wear a really red nail polish like Valentine Red or Cherry Tomato, try pairing it with a burgundy or crimson lip color.
