Enjoy the sun with these fantastic locations

As grey skies obscure the sun, it would be fair to say that the Great British summer has been pretty awful. Rain has poured, wind has blown and your barbecue aspirations have been a damp squib.

It’s time to get out of this wet and windy weather and jet off to warmer climes.

That’s exactly what we’ve done. Using Gatwick Airport as our starting point, we’ve left our vehicle with the Gatwick meet and greet, booked a flight and jetted off to some sun-kissed locations. All to report back to you, of course.

So what did we find?

Sydney

G’day mate, it’s time to shove a shrimp on the barby. There are few places sunnier than Sydney, Australia – and even fewer have the great culture to match.

When you’re not sunning yourself on Bondi Beach, the Sydney Opera House is the perfect venue for anyone looking for a varied roster of entertainment. Huge bands, public speakers, stand-up comedians and even the occasional bit of opera, tickets are understandably pricey – but they’re always worth the cost.

Animal lovers can head along to the Featherdale Wildlife Park to meet a host of cute critters in the blistering sun. Can you think of a better way to spend an afternoon?

Los Angeles

LA, where aspiring actors become waiters and major executives spin yarns of fiction even greater than their films. But the air of cynicism hanging over LA’s streets doesn’t impact this genuine city of dreams.

When you make your visit, wander up the Hollywood Walk of Fame to see just how many cinematic goliaths have passed through the studio system. But if you fancy seeing some real stars, travel to the Griffith observatory to see some of the finest constellations in the planet.

And as the sun begins to set on this American playground, head to the Santa Monica Pier, where you’ll be able to watch final rays of the afternoon reflecting on the North Pacific Ocean. It’s the perfect end to your day.

Barcelona

Barcelona isn’t only a brilliant song from Freddie Mercury. It’s also a stunning sunny location in its own right.

Hit the Gothic Quarter and you’ll be astonished by the kind of architecture you’d only expect in works of fiction. A simple wander around this city is a tourist attraction in its own right.

Just like its buildings, the food in Barcelona will stun you. Head to Moments, one of the finest restaurants in the region, for a combination of classical Spanish food with a modern twist. Your summer will be delicious.
