Colorbar Deep Rust, Deep Earth Deep Matte Lip Creme Review

I have been a pink lipstick lover ever since I became a lippie fanatic. I have been owning varieties of pinks since then and the quest is still on. But this summer I found myself drifting away from pink to the love for rusty muddy colours (no browns though!). I came across Deep matte lip creme from Colorbar in the form of liquid lipstick namely 004 Deep Earth and 006 Deep Rust while lippie hunting.

Packaging: Colorbar Deep Matte Lip Creme are contained in transparent plastic cylinders with reflective silver screw caps. The packaging is very sturdy and travel friendly. At the bottom of the lipstick is a sticker containing the shade name, net volume, mfg and exp dates. The cylinders come in a rectangular silver cardboard case that contains the ingredient list. The lipstick has a shelf life of 3 years and contains 6ml of product. I feel they should have packed less amount of product with reduced pricing because a very little amount is required and no one will ever be able to finish so much of lipstick as the trend is always changing.

Texture & Formula: True to its name, it is a crème lipstick that is smooth and thick and not at all runny. It glides conveniently. The feeling on the lips is soft and creamy but no peculiar synthetic feeling is noted. It is very light weight and once you put on a single layer, you do not feel anything on your lips. Upon layering though, it feels obvious that something sits on your lips. A photo (given below) with a drop of the lipstick will give you a fair idea about the consistency of the product. Application can be a bit messy if you do not apply carefully. The doe-foot applicator is not flat which makes applying around the corners of the lips difficult and can lead to bleeding.

Shade & Pigmentation: Colorbar Deep Matte Lip Crème Deep Earth is a peachy brown shade with obvious tones of warm earth colour (think of mud pots/bhaanr). However on application, it transforms into a brilliant neutral colour on the lips that is neither too brown nor too peachy. It will look flattering on fair to medium complexions but will wash out dark complexions. I wore it during the night so the pictures are shot in a moderately lit room. In daytime there may be a slight alteration of tone but nothing significant.

Deep Rust is a rust orange colour that will work across skin tones. It is warm toned, vibrant and more of an orange than rust. A single swipe will deliver opaque finish as it is very pigmented. In the photos, my cousin is seen wearing it, (I figured she pulled the colour off way better than me!) and the pictures are shot in natural day light.

Staying power: Deep Rust stays a bit longer than Deep Earth on me as the latter is a lighter shade. But the average wear time is 3 to 3.5 hours with light snacking and drinking as against 8 hours claimed by the company.

Finish: Both deliver a moist matte finish and none of these dry to a completely matte look. It doesn’t dry out my lips instead feel quite hydrating. Colorbar Deep Matte Lip Crème doesn’t emphasize fine lines either however after 2 hours or so, the fine lines start to show.

Pros:

1. Deep pigmented colours.
2. Doesn’t feel synthetic on lips.
3. Non-drying and to some extent hydrating.
4. Very creamy thus easy to apply.
5. The finish is semi-matte to some people’s liking.
6. Sturdy packaging.
7. Lovely colours

Cons:

1. Transfers easily.
2. Staying power is not even near to what they claim.
3. Formula could have been better.
4. Pricing could be less given the quality of the lipstick.
5. High maintenance lipstick so best to avoid if you are in a hurry.
