Colorbar 006 Mauve Dusk Kiss Proof Lip Stain Review Swatches Photos

Colorbar is definitely one of my favourite Indian brands for makeup. I feel they are consistent both quality and quantity wise. My only concern with them usually is their rising prices off late. I have loved most of their products so far. Except for the glosses, but that’s probably on me coz I am not a fan of glossy lips. Having said that, I am in two minds about the Kiss Proof Lip stain. I like it some days and hate it on others. I figured out why. So I am going to try my best to pen down my experience with it. This is the only shade I have tried from this range so far, because I wanted to be sure about the product before buying more. Mauve Dusk is my favourite shade from the range though.

Packaging – The lip stain comes in a metallic looking box, signature Colorbar packaging. The actual product comes in an attractive cylindrical glass tube packaging with a silver cap. It has a doe foot applicator with a tiny hole which helps in dispersing the right amount of product and also helps to spread it easily on the lips. The tube is silver and transparent in intervals, so it is easy to the see the actual product shade. It is quite slim and easy to carry around in the bag. 

Shade – Mauve Dusk is a beautiful muted blue based mauve shade. I just loved the shade as soon as I swatched it. This shade I feel would suit all skin tones. Fair to dark skinned beauties, all of them can carry this shade. And it would add a brightness to the face.

Texture & Pigmentation – Even though it is called a lip stain, the texture of it is very smooth and creamy. It is very easy to apply. And with this shade in particular one layer is enough to cover all the pigmentation if you have any. It looks glossy once you have applied it, but within 10-15 seconds it sets to a powder matte finish. Colorbar 006 Mauve Dusk Kiss Proof Lip Stain doesn’t smudge or budge. It definitely is kiss proof. I tried it on hand, mirror and a tissue to be sure. It is very lightweight and doesn’t feel heavy on your lips. I won’t say that you won’t feel it on your lips at all, but it won’t be uncomfortable.  It smells faintly of vanilla like all the other lip products from Colorbar. It is insanely pigmented.

The colour shows up beautifully on your lips. Do not try to apply another layer, as it will come off as patchy. It will be very unforgiving on dry, chapped and flaky lips. So make sure you exfoliate and prep your lips properly. Even though I have normal lips, the first time I used it; it felt very drying and patchy on my lips just after 2 hours. The reason was, after exfoliating I applied a lip balm, but I wiped it off completely before applying the lip stain. The next few times I used it, I did not completely wipe of the lip balm, instead patted my lips with a tissue lightly and the applied the lip stain. That way it did not feel dry so early.  But, it will feel drying even on normal lips after 4-5 hours, but on very dry lips it might feel dry earlier, say within 2 hours.

You can apply a clear balm on top to bring a little moisture, but that will take away the smudge proof quality of the product. It will slowly start fading, transferring and bleeding a little too.

Staying Power – It has a very good staying power. I have normal lips, on my lips without touch up it stays on for nearly 7 hours. But there is a very big IF. It stays on, on my lips without budging and smudging provided I do not eat or drink anything. If I do, it starts to fade off from the inside of my lower lip. It looks uneven and ugly. Of course you can re-apply, but there lies the biggest con of this product.

You cannot re apply this product as it is. If you try, it will give you a patchy application and start peeling and crumbling once it dries. The only way to re-apply this product is to completely remove the first application and then apply again, which definitely is too much of a hassle.

Overall Thoughts

I still don’t know if I like Colorbar 006 Mauve Dusk Kiss Proof Lip Stain. I like the feel of it on my lips and its ease of application. And the fact that it’s creamy to apply but sets matte. I definitely wanted to love it for the shade and pigmentation. But, I cannot ignore the cons. And for the price, these cons are definitely huge. You can try this product if you are prepared to go through the hassle of either not drinking or eating anything while wearing it or to go through the entire process of reapplication from the start. However make sure you exfoliate and moisturise your lips properly before applying it. I don’t see myself picking up more shades from this range, but I am definitely planning to use the one I have.
