The Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is an oldie but a goodie. This is such a multi-purpose product. I first came across it on Lisa Eldrige’s videos. For those of you who don’t know who she is, you can check out here website or videos on YouTube. When I was initially getting into makeup and stuff I used to follow her Makeup basics series, where she mentioned this as one of her favourite primers. I decided to pick it up, firstly because it sounded really promising, secondly because it was the only one available in India at that time and lastly because I was looking for a primer which had skin care benefits too. As much as I love Makeup, I would go an extra mile for skin care coz I firmly believe that for make up to look good, your skin must be prepped properly.

Product Claims – The ultimate pick-me-up for tired, stressed skin — Clarins’ brightening balm eliminates signs of fatigue in a flash! Instantly moisturizes and tightens facial contours so skin looks rested and relaxed. Olive and Witch Hazel extracts help visibly smooth the skin’s surface — diffusing the look of lines and wrinkles. Soothing Bisabolol helps restore skin’s youthful glow.

Instructions for use by Clarins

To Give your skin radiance in a flash : After cleansing and toning apply a thin layer of Beauty Flash Balm to neck and face using gentle sweeping movements(do not rub in). Follow it up with foundation immediately if needed.

To Energise and soothe your skin : After cleansing and toning, Apply a thick layer of Beauty Flash Balm and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Do it 2-3 times a week.

Packaging, Texture & Fragrance – Clarins Beauty Flash Balm comes in regular white tube packaging with red lettering. A signature Clarins Packaging. The packaging is quite sturdy, light weight and travel friendly.

The consistency is creamlike, but very lightweight and non greasy. It is pale peach in colour and has a soapy fragrance which stays for a while. It is not strong and overpowering though. The product sinks into your skin and gets absorbed easily within 5 mins and leaves your skin looking fresh.

My Experience 

I do not use it on a regular basis as recommended. For me it is luxurious product which I use on special occasions or the days when I feel my skin needs some extra pampering or care. In summers I use it either as it is, or under my foundation. In winters I use it post a moisturiser and add foundation later. I take a pea size amount and smooth is lightly over my face and neck very gently. Take care not to rub it in or it will start crumbling. Even though it is recommended to follow up with make up immediately, I wait five minutes for the product to sink into my skin. It absorbs completely into the skin, takes away the dullness and leaves the skin looking refreshed and hydrated. It tightens up the skin and blurs the pores completely.

Applying foundation on top becomes easier as it gives it a smooth base for the foundation to go on. It is almost like Clarins Beauty Flash Balm gives you a renewed skin. I will not say that it will increase the longevity of your foundation/make up. But your make up will definitely sit better on top of it.

I do not use it as mask as recommended, but in winters once or twice a month I use it overnight under my night cream or serum. It helps my skin to stay hydrated in that weather and also gives it an overnight facial. For the next few days my skin feels healthy, glowing and renewed. There are times we all fall of the wagon and abuse our skin by not taking care of it, so do I. At those times this product comes as a life saver and puts the life back into my skin.

It is a product for all skin types as it does not make your skin greasy nor does it dry you out. You only need a very small amount to cover your face and neck and one tube will last you a very long time. It comes with 3 years of shelf life and has lasted me very long.  I have repurchased it only once in 4 years and my current tube will easily last me one full year and perhaps more.

Overall Thoughts

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is a multi-purpose product. It is a cult favourite for the right reasons. It does everything it claims and more. It acts as hydrating primer, a reviver for dull skin and even as an overnight mask. It helps your skin to be its best and makes your makeup look beautiful. It is definitely a Holy Grail product.  And works for all skin types. It is certainly expensive, but it is worth it as this luxurious product with a long shelf life lasts you a very long time.
