How to Choose a Diaper Bag

How to Choose a Diaper Bag

With infants and even to some extent toddlers, diapers bags become your accessory. You might even learn to skip carrying your handbag and simply stashing the essentials into a side pocket.

There are countless options available depending on your requirements as well as budget. A basic bag starts at around Rs. 1000 and then you have the Prada diaper bags that can set you back a few hundred dollars.

I have three bags I use in rotation: one for when we are only going out for a couple of hours, another for when we need to travel, and finally one that I use when we attend events which require dressing up to the nines.

This first I received as a gift, and though it seems quite basic, it has served me well. The cover flap opens up to become a changing mat, and since it is cotton it won’t irritate the baby’s skin or be too cold to the touch. It has two small front and side pockets and one large interior space. That is the main downside, the lack of pockets inside to organize items.

The next is the DuoDetach from Milestone we purchased from Mom & Me, and it retails for Rs. 3095 and is available in three colors: orange, pink and navy. This is perfect for traveling since it comes with ample amount of space, as well as multiple inside and outside pockets, which can be used for diapers and other quick to reach items. It comes with a short and a detachable long handle, bottle warmer, changing mat and a bag for holding dirty diapers/clothes.

Louis Vuitton Speedy is technically not a diaper bag, but since it is so difficult to find one that will go well with heavy Indian outfits I choose to carry this when attending weddings. Plus it makes for an excellent accessory! It currently retails at USD 910 and is available at all Louis Vuitton stores in India. This can best be used to hold a couple of diapers, travel size wipes, and a toy or two. Beyond that it is best to have full supplies waiting in the car.

As with my handbags, I believe it is best to switch diaper bags ever so often, and pick one that will best suit your time away from home. At the end of the day it needs to fit everything that your child could possibly want.
