Beginners Guide To EyeMakeup – Part 1

2 years back I used to look at the eyemakeup done by youtube gurus and admire them. I never thought that I would love doing it myself one day ! Very few people around me know that I love eyemakeup and it comes as a surprise to them.. It’s my way of showing creativity hidden deep inside me !!

Since I have learnt a bit myself and can put the basics in layman terms, I have decided to do a series ‘Beginners Guide To EyeMakeup’  in which i will share my understanding and experience on the products required for an eyemakeup. Lets Start with Eyeshadow Primer/ Base – Eyeshadow primers What an eyeshadow primer does –

A primer helps eyeshadow to show up better + increases the lasting power of eyemakeup + it provides a good base for eyeshadows to stick to (Particularly powder eyeshadows/ pigments) + it prevents eye makeup from creasing or sliding I have explored 6 different  eye makeup base/ primers and have linked them to their complete review –

  1. NYX HD Eyeshadow Primer
  2. MUA Professional Eyes Primer
  3. MAC Paintpot – Indianwood
  4. Urban Decay Primer Potion – not reviewed yet
  5. Maybelline color tattoo eyeshadow
  6. NYX eyeshadow Base

Other than these you can look at primers from Beyu & Deborah Milano as well. Let me share the price, availability & Performance of above listed primers Untitled

How and Which Primer to chose? As a beginner I would suggest you to buy neutral or flesh toned primers, Since they can be used under eyeshadow of any color or texture. My suggestion would include NYX primers, MUA & MAC paintpots (They have number of shades available).

In case of pigmented eyelids an opaque primer/ base like MAC Paintpots or Maybelline Color Tattoo would be highly recommended. These two products will also help incase you use only one or two particular shades most of the times as these come in variety of beautiful long wearing shades.Eye primersI hope this post would helped you in choosing right eyeshadow base for you. In case you have more queries please leave them in comments below.

This is a great idea for a series! (I obviously found it because I’m a novice when it comes to eyeshadows and was looking for some advice.) I can’t wait to see the other posts in this series. Please please please do a post on tackling dark circles.

I highly recommend the NYX HD Eyeshadow Base. It was my first eyeshadow primer and I love it! It was a game changer for me. Before I tried it, I thought that either all eyeshadows were very sheer or only stayed on the eyes for a few minutes. I was obviously missing something…and not using great shadows. But, the NYX HD base can make just about any shadow pop and last an entire work day.

I also LOVE the Maybelline Color Tattoos as stand-alone, easy-to-apply eyeshadows. They are so fun to apply (fingers or brush) and to collect. I have over a dozen colors and I’m not THAT in eyeshadows. I’m starting to play with them as bases now.
