8 Tips To Make Your Manicure Last Longer

Short nails are the best bet

Short nails are comfortable and safe, as there is no free end of the nails for abuse. When you nails are longer, they are more prone to exposure and all the possible activities. This can eventually land in nail chopping and breakage.

Best top coat and base coat

Everyone has got their favourite base/top coats; they keep the nail polish chip-free for longer time, at least more than the average time. Apply two coats of base coats – once fully on the nails and again to the top half of your nails. This will help a lot since the nail tips are more prone to chipping.

As for the top coat, make sure you cover up the free edge of the nail too. This is to ensure that your entire nail is sealed.

Avoid soaking nails before applying polish

Soaking nails in warm water is a common practice during manicure. This will allow nails to absorb water, soften and change in their natural shape. Once you apply nail polish, they dry and shrink. This will cause your polish to chip away.

Rules of filing and applying

File in just one direction, either to the left or to right. Alternate directions can weaken the nails. Apply nail polish in thin strokes to avoid the packing the nails. Heavy thick nail paint application will give you the shortest manicure life span. The simple trick is to remember not to overload your nails

No hand sanitizers

While hand sanitizers are marketed for hygiene purpose, they do no good to the nails. They make nails dry and dull eventually leading to chipping of nail paints. Instead use mild hand soap and warm water to wash hands.

Nail oils/strengtheners

Make sure your nails are always healthy and shiny. Apply nail oils everyday to strengthen and keep nails always in shape. Dry brittle nails can lead to heavy chipping of nail polishes. So, work on your nail care routine and apply nail oils every night without fail.

Protect nails while doing dishes and other chores

Hands are the most abusive parts of our body. Every activity or work is done with our bare hands which can easily ruin the manicure which you just did an hour ago. The chemicals in the cleaning products can easily ruin your nail polish layers. So, wear hand gloves to protect the beauty of your hands and nails.
